Sorry this video took so long, I was sidetracked by other projects and work. This video is a quick rough example of the touch interface in action. The multi touch functionality is not shown here yet. The video is not real glitzy, I had to work the camera at the same time.
Here’s the deal: I got the first step of the mult touch interface working. I shall post a video on this front page within the next two days, I just need batteries for my camera.
I put the password protection back on the pages for the time being. I will put the site back up once I finish a little more work. If anyone wants access please email me at fir3touch@gmail.com or post a comment to this post. Thanks!
As stated before, this blog is centered around developing a DIY (Do It Yourself) Web Tablet. I have been working on this project for a number of months. The main content of this site is accessible through the main menu. The organization of the information might change over the next few days. I have provided links to sites in the left side menu that I think relate to this project. If you are interested in this project, start with the “Introduction” page and go from there. The passwords previously protecting the pages have been removed. If you have extra or old computer components laying around that you are not using, please donate. Check out the “Donate Your Junk” link in the menu. I would ultimately like to donate finished versions to those who can’t afford computers. Take a look at the site and feel free to comment!
The main pages of this blog are located in the top menu. Some of the pages are password protected. Very soon I will unprotect the pages. I’ve recieved some respectible traffic on this site over the past few days, but have gotten no feed back. Please leave a comment if you find this project interesting, if you want to contribute, if you have any ideas or contructive criticism, or if you have anything to say.
TechCruch evidently has been working on their $200 web tablet. They have an update on the below page:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/08/30/update-on-the-techcrunch-tablet-prototype-a/
Michael Arrington or crew has yet to get in touch with me, so I’m continuing my development. Some of the pages on this sight that are accessible through the menu bar are password encrypted. I will soon take this encryption off to show where I got my idea from and what my full plans are. If anyone is interested in helping out please add a comment to this post. Otherwise if you just want to snoop around and maybe give a little feedback please do so. Enjoy!
My main intent is to build a DIY Web Tablet. I have been working on this project for a number of months. One day I came across an article on techcrunch.com. The author wanted a “a dead simple and dirt cheap touch screen web tablet to surf the web.” He went on to describe the tablet, “Nothing fancy like the Dell latitude XT, which costs $2,500. Just a Macbook Air-thin touch screen machine that runs Firefox and possibly Skype. It doesn’t exist today, and as far as we can tell no one is creating one.” This is a link to the article:

This seemed similar to what I was building. Based of the response received on the TechCRUNCH page there is obviously a demand. When I saw the article, I opened up Google Groups and started a group to see if people wanted to jump into development. I posted a link to the Google Group on the page, and a few people signed up. Not much has been done on that front so I thought I would start a blog instead. I would like as many people to contribute as possible. I will post my work and ask for recommendations, comments, and professional opinions. Anyone intereted in helping out is more than welcome to contribute. I plan on posting all information so anyone can create one.
